***SPRING 2020 SEASON UPDATE FROM THE SCAA PRESIDENT (as of 5/7/2020)***
Dear Steele Creek Families,
I hope that everyone is doing well. This has truly been a change from our normal way of living and getting things done.
The Steele Creek Executive Board met on Saturday, 5/3, along with the commissioners of each sport to discuss the spring season. Here is a summary of what was decided…
Baseball is planning to play a regular season with the hopes of a District and State Playoff. They hope to start the season on June 1st.
Softball is also planning to have a regular season with an end-of-the-season tournament. They hope to start the season on June 1st.
Soccer will not have a spring season but will move forward with plans to have a fall season and start training in June.
Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading are scheduled to start with the regular schedule this fall. We are waiting for further direction from Pop Warner.
Flag Football could still take place if there is enough interest.
All of this is dependent upon State and Local rulings on stay at home policy. Under the 3 phases of Governor Roy Cooper’s plan, the earliest that we can start games would be late May or early June. The Board realizes that many of you are trying to determine what to do next.
The Executive Board has decided that if we cannot start spring sports by the first week of June, we will cancel the spring season. This is a difficult decision but one that all the other programs around the area are dealing with. Most leagues are still holding on to a chance to play, some have changed timelines, and others have canceled everything.
With that being said, Steele Creek would like to offer our members the following options with regard to the Spring season sports fees paid.
Members can wait for the season to start and play the spring season.
Members can decide not to play and use the funds to apply towards the fall season 2020.
You can donate the sports fee to the Association to cover the cost of maintenance of the park (this would be a tax-deductible donation).
Members can apply for a refund and the Association will issue those minus any uniform cost (you will be given the uniform). Refunds are sent back to the same payment method used for registration (credit/debit card)
Please let the commissioner of your sport know which option you have elected by May 15, 2020. If there are special circumstances, those will be reviewed by the President and Chairman of the Board. If we do not receive your election, we will assume that you are playing. Commissioner emails are listed below. Please include in your email:
Player(s) name and age division
Name of parent/guardian who registered the player(s)
Describe the option you are choosing.
We understand that times are difficult, and we want to work with our members. Other local associations have told members that the season is over, and they were not refunding any sport fees. We do not want to go that route. Steele Creek Athletic Association is a non-profit, that plans to break even each year. Whether we play or not, there are costs associated with the facilities that continue to be paid, such as lawn maintenance, insurance, and utilities. Our hope is to play as soon as possible and as safe as possible.
