Little Kickers is first and foremost a child development program to help children mature on all levels. Our program focuses on helping children build a strong physical, intellectual and emotional skills that will help them be successful on and off the soccer field. We believe in teaching children in ways that suit their developmental level. So, you won't see adult-like skill drills in our classes, but you will see teaching methods specifically designed to create an atmosphere that is effective and fun. You will also see happy, confident and sweaty kids who are eager to learn and want to keep coming back for more.
Whether your child is new to soccer or has already developed a love for the game, the progressive nature of Little Kickers offers a place for children at every level. For more information, just click below.
Recreational Soccer is primarily devoted to the development of youth soccer players.
Steele Creek Soccer Club (SCSC) is a family-oriented soccer club that provides an opportunity to play organized soccer at the recreational, developmental and competitive levels for players at ages 3 – 19 years old. We offer challenging programs that place the focus on the development of the whole player within a team environment.
SCSC is committed to providing the best tactical and overall athletic development for each player while offering players, their families and coaches an enjoyable soccer experience. We are dedicated to helping players reach their full potential while fostering a love of the game.
Instructional clinics for both coaches and players are offered each season to all program participants at no additional cost.
NCYSA has introduced the Academy philosophy for the U9-U12 age group and officially has become a requirement for NC clubs to adopt this year. The premise: to provide our youngsters with the best possible start to their soccer experience. Since 2015, many other clubs both here in Charlotte and across NC have adopted the same philosophy.
The focus of the Youth Academy is to develop young soccer players through the “Golden Years of Learning”. Players at this age are like sponges and can learn to love the game and develop positive habits and attitudes which provide the foundations for soccer excellence down the road. The emphasis at this age is fun and enjoyment where everything is positive and creativity is encouraged. If kids enjoy the game at this introductory age then hopefully they will be playing and enjoying the game for years to come.
The Youth Academy program stresses player development versus results. It is much more important to develop players within the proper framework at this age as opposed to demanding that teams win at all costs. If the goal is just to win there are shortcuts that coaches can take at the expense of developing the player and the team. By focusing on developing the player and putting them in the best training situation that fits the individual, this helps the entire team and success will follow.
The curriculum in place at Steele Creek Soccer Club (SCSC) and the pool training sessions are designed specifically for this age. The coaches who will be working with these players are superb at training and understanding the younger players. Therefore, you can be completely comfortable in the knowledge that your child is receiving the best soccer instruction for their age and ability.
Our goal is to help each child develop skills and techniques to play "The Beautiful Game of Soccer:" We want to open the door of creativity for every player with a soccer ball!
Steele Creek Soccer Club (SCSC) forms teams to play several levels of competitive (travel) soccer based on the results of formal tryouts held in the spring of each year. All players must attend tryouts every spring to be considered for a spot on a competitive team for the following year (August through May). Following tryouts, SCSC will present qualified players with an offer of a position on a competitive team based on their demonstrated level of ability. Players and families are made aware of the team's planned playing level, coach assignment, and travel/tournament expectations before player commitment. Once the player accepts his position on the team, he pr she is committed to SCSC and that team for the entire playing year (August-May).
All players are separated by age group following the 2019 USSF mandates of birth year Matrix registrations, i.e... Born in 2010. The next step is to place all players in playing groups of similar ability. This allows the individual player to participate in a group where they can be challenged and experience teachable moments to learn and succeed.
Player Development & Education
Player Development
The long-term development plan identifies five areas for player development – technical, tactical, social, psychological and physical. Our experience shows that this methodology best produces a well-rounded player capable of competitive play. The coaching curriculum from U4 to U19 follows progressions on the importance of each stage of development, from motor skills and social development, through technical work in the middle ages, and tactical practices at the older ages and later stages of development.
Education & Training
While practice is important, in any sport, Steele Creek Soccer Club focuses on the quality of practice for more effective player development both on and off the field. Quality is far better than the number of players. Excessive tournament play and vast amounts of fitness without a ball is detrimental to the player and increases the incidence of injury, and we hope that through the education of our parents and players, we can prevent the likelihood of injury through proper habits on & off the field.
Parent Education
Parents play a vital role in youth soccer but are often the least informed stakeholders. Most parents’ primary goal is to help their child enjoy their soccer experience and help them to reach their potential. In addition to that, many parents help manage their child’s team and some even hold important positions at their youth club. Most board members and decision-makers at youth clubs are parents.
We at Steele Creek recognize the important contribution made by parents in our soccer programs and appreciate the challenges facing parents in their quest for guidance on how to help their child reach their potential in life, how to be supportive, and how to help their club in its mission to develop players.
Our goal is to ensure that each parent, regardless of the program their child is in, has access to information and seminars provided by the club to cultivate a culture of understanding, transparency, and open communication.
