Steele Creek Charlotte, NC youth athletics and sports. Soccer, softball, baseball and cheerleading. Ages from 3 to 16 years old. SCAA is community athletic since 1958.
SCAA offers the Competitive Soccer program to boys and girls ages 12 - 19 that are ready to compete at the higher levels of competition, beyond a curriculum of the Youth Academy. Our Competitive Program exists to allow any player, irrespective of ability, the opportunity to take their game to the height of their potential. Players play with other players of like-ability with various levels of commitment throughout. Higher the level, greater the commitment. We believe in striving for excellence and as players progress, they are constantly put in new situations to provide a greater challenge if indeed that is what the player desires. For our top players their goals include playing on the ODP state teams, regional teams, national teams, college teams, professional teams, etc. For our club, we want to push our players to “the next level”. This “next level” may be different for every player. Much like Youth Academy, the training program is unmatched, the rigor is high caliber, but the reward is far grander. Interested players must participate in an evaluation process that occurs in May of each year. Once a player has accepted a position in the Competitive Program, they are committed to participating for their upcoming soccer season.
Season Commitment
Competitive players train two nights per week and are strongly encouraged to participate in the supplemental technical training session offered by SCAA's Technical Director. Coaches specialize in developing supreme tactical awareness and technical ability as a team, placing a higher responsibility for individual growth on the player. Players typically play matches on weekends during the season against teams from other clubs in the western half of NC and some SC. A balance of home and away matches are played. There is at least one tournament competitive teams will participate in, in addition to the SCAA Festival Event.
Age Breakdown & League Divisions
Age Breakdown
Competitive teams 11U through 19U participate in leagues administered by the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA). NCYSA offers several levels of competition; SCSC teams participate in the Select and Classic programs as appropriate.
NCYSA Competitive Leagues & Divisions
The Classic league is divided into several playing levels based on team performance (Third Division, Second Division, First/Open Division, Premier) as well as geographic regions. Teams play approximately 10 games per season in their region. Premier is the highest level of Classic soccer, is offered in age groups 14U-19U only, and consists of the top 13 teams in the state based on league performance. Teams in the Premier division can expect to travel state-wide for 12 season games.
Qualified teams in 13U-19U can apply to participate in the USYS National League (Piedmont). The USYS Leagues Program is inter-state league designed to bring together the top teams in the region for advanced competition and opportunities to advance to National competition.
