SCAA Baseball has structured the baseball divisions to be in line with Little League guidelines and the other Little League North Carolina District 3 associations. The structure builds our association from the T-Ball League through Majors League and then onto a full size field with the LL Junior and Senior League program.

Division Information

T-BALL DIVISION (4-6): Our Rookie Division is for boys and girls 4-6 years old who want to learn the basic fundamentals of of baseball. Players hit a ball off a batting tee. Later in the season live pitching will be permitted. Score is not kept in this division. The primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the basics of throwing & catching a baseball, holding and swinging a bat, running the bases, and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. Generally, the diamond used is a 50-foot diamond. Games usually last 3-4 innings. Each team bats in a continuous lineup every inning.

MACHINE PITCH DIVISION (7-8): Machine Pitch is designed for ages 7-8. 6-Year old’s can "play up" if they have completed at least one year of T-Ball and their parents sign a waiver. Primarily a learning division, but mildly competitive and scores are kept. Players focus on learning proper hitting and fielding mechanics, and the primary rules of the game. The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and a machine pitches from a distance of 40 feet between 38 - 42 MPH.

MINORS DIVISION (9-10): For ages 9-10 but allows 8 yr olds to "play up". The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet. It provides the first opportunity for players to participate in a league requiring more advanced baseball skills (players pitching, stealing bases, catcher position development) with rules similar to those in the Majors Division. Pitch Counts will be enforced per the Little League guidelines.

MAJORS DIVISION (11-12): For ages 11-12 but allows 10 yr olds to "play up".The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet.  It allows for players to participate in a league requiring more advanced pitching and hitting skills, stealing bases, advanced baseball strategy). Pitch Counts will be enforced per the Little League guidelines.

<SC-LL generally plays Majors in spring seasons and Intermediate in fall>

INTERMEDIATE DIVISION (11-13): Strictly for ages 11-13, there is no "playing-up" permitted per Little League rules. Played on the Majors field #4, but with bases moved to 70 foot spacing and a 50 foot pitching distance. This allows for the addition of live baserunning and "leading-off" from bases at any time the ball is in play. This Division helps players transition between Majors and Juniors playing formats and field sizes, hence the "Intermediate" name.

JR & SENIOR DIVISION (13-16):  Players move onto a full sized regulation baseball field.  The skills developed in the younger age divisions now allow the player to start to experience baseball as it is traditionally played in school and college on 90' basepaths and 60'6" pitching distance. At this age level we stress the higher level of baseball and prep the players for school ball. Pitch Counts will be enforced per the Little League gui

Note: This age chart is for BASEBALL DIVISIONS ONLY, and is modified to allow 16 year olds who would have "aged-out" after spring 2020 under the standard chart to play one final season. This chart is only for FALL 2020, and Spring 2021 will revert to the standard Little League 2021 age chart. For the Fall season, SC-LL follows the LL age chart for the following spring. Players therefore "age-up" in the fall season to allow additional development time in their new age division ahead of the spring season and post-season District Tournaments.
