Spring 2022 Baseball
UPDATE- Registrations are now closed
Registration page link
**Initial registration deadline for ages 4-12 was 2/6/2022. All registrations accepted at this point for those ages are considered LATE and a late fee will be assessed (waived for TeeBall). Uniforms are not be guaranteed to arrive before first games for any age 4-12 registrations after 2/6. Registrations will completely close for each age division once we reach the cap for that division. This could happen any time so do not wait to register!** Registration deadline for ages 13-18 will be mid-March
**We have reached the maximum players for the number of planned teams in the the MINORS and MAJORS Divisions. Registrations are currently being accepted for the "waitlist" (without payment), and if we reach the next threshold to add another team AND have an additional volunteer to coach, then we will move waitlisted players to the registration list to make payment.
Spring registrations are now open! The Baseball Board met to plan out the spring season, and address several challenges the baseball program (and SCAA) have been facing. Due to these challenges, there will be some changes to the program and also an increased need for each of your involvement in order to overcome these challenges:
Umpires- our umpire scheduling agent notified us that they will no longer be able to provide umpires for games at SCAA and LKW fields. There has been a growing umpire shortage over the past several seasons and they are reducing the number of leagues that they will cover. We experienced this shortage firsthand last season with a number of games needing to be officiated by parent volunteers. We already have plans in the works to arrange umpires for our games, and you will likely see many of the same umpires at our fields again this season, just being scheduled via a different avenue. We also responded to this shortage last season by recruiting some of our parents and teenage players to undergo training and begin umpiring some of the younger division games. We need to expand on this strategy to cover games in the younger divisions (primarily Machine Pitch) so that we can prioritize the veteran umpires to the older divisions. Keep in mind that umpiring is a paid position for those that have undergone training and have the required gear and uniform. Please email
for more details if you would consider getting involved as an umpire. Parents will be scheduled to officiate games where their child is not playing, and scheduling can be worked around your availability. Seniors and 18U players will be scheduled around their own game schedules.
Majors Division (ages 11-12)- we had played the Intermediate format for the past few seasons at this age level, but will be returning to the Majors format for spring 2022. The primary factor for this change is only one umpire is required for Majors, but Intermediate needs two due to the live baserunning with leadoffs/pick-offs/balks. This change will also allow more flexibility for league-age 10 players to be considered for playing up. The SCAA Challenge program will still play Intermediate format for 11-12 y/o brackets in their Sunday tournaments).
Uniforms- the country has experienced supply chain issues over the past year, and this impacted us by not having all uniform items in time for our first games last season. To avoid this again, we absolutely must get our uniform order in early this season, which means we must also adjust our registration deadline (see below).
Registration deadlines- Our initial registration deadline for Machine Pitch, Minors, and Majors is Sunday February 6th. This is about two weeks earlier than in the past. Player evaluations begin the following Saturday 2/12 and we need time to finalize coaching commitments prior to that. Coaching needs are based on the number of teams, which of course is based on the registration totals. Based on registration totals at the 2/6 deadline, we will determine the number of teams for each division and then cap the number of total registrations for each age division to limit teams sizes to no more than 12 players. We will only accept “late registrations” up until the cap is reached for that age division, and no later than the day before teams are drafted. There is no guarantee we can accept a registration after 2/6, and IF accepted a late fee will be added, AND uniforms for players registered after 2/6 are not guaranteed to arrive before first games. Please be sure to register early! Registration deadlines for Juniors, Seniors, and 18U Divisions has not yet been established and will be dependent on the District’s interleague schedule which has not yet been announced. TeeBall will continue taking registrations up until when teams are formed, however uniforms will not be guaranteed to arrive before first games for players registered after 2/6.
Juniors (13-14), Seniors (15-16), and 18U registration are open now and will continue into mid-March. Only ages 4-12 have a deadline of Feb 6th. Once we get more concrete dates from the District we will finalize our registration deadline. We will start preseason workouts in March on the weekends. Games will begin around May 1st and wrap up in early June. The schedules at these ages are done this way to minimize conflicts with middle school and high school teams which typically wrap up the first week of May. Many of our players also play school ball and we understand there may be some weeknight conflicts with our April practices and early May games, and we just ask that players communicate with their coach when they cannot attend their SCAA practice/game.
Coaching needs- due to the advanced timeline above, we need to line up coaching commitments as early as possible. If you have coached in the past (manager or assistant) or would consider coaching this season, please email
so we can get you into the loop. There will be a preseason coaches meeting and training and support is available for new coaches.
Player Evaluations (Machine Pitch (MP), Minors, Majors)- players must attend a minimum of one evaluation session. Sessions will be on 2/19 (rain date 2/20) and 2/26 (rain date (2/27). Times for both dates: Majors 12pm, Minors 1pm, Machine Pitch 2pm. **players wishing to play-up a Division must attend an evaluation session for both their correct-age Division AND the older Division they wish to play-up to**.

ALL DIVISIONS- SCAA is a parent volunteer run organization. We are a non-profit, member-only association. All board members, commissioners, field maintainers, uniform/equipment/concessions/awards coordinators and other volunteers donate their time and effort to make our youth sports programs possible. Without volunteers, we don’t function. Added to the registration process this year is a drop down box to select how your family would like to pitch in with our program by volunteering. There are over a dozen options with varying degrees of time commitment to fulfill, and we recognize that family and personal situations may make certain roles difficult for some members, but at a minimum each family is expected to volunteer two shifts in the concession stand over the course of the season.
SCAA Baseball has structured the baseball divisions to be in line with Little League guidelines and the other Little League North Carolina District 3 associations. The structure builds our association from the T-Ball Division through Majors or Intermediate Division and then onto a full size field with the LL Junior and Senior League program.
