RECREATIONAL SOCCER- FAQ
What league should I sign my child up for?
4,5 years old- U6, 6,7 years old- U8, 8,9 years old- U10, 10,11 years old- U12, 12,13 years old U14, 14 up-High school
Soccer leagues are divided by age- U6, U8, U10, U12… The “U “ means under that age. So the U-6 league are players under 6- 4,5 year olds. The U-8 league consists of player that are under 8, 6 and 7 year olds, etc. The age of the player on July 31st of this year is what determines the league. A player who is 7 on July 31st plays U-8. And, like school, the player is a U-8 player for the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 season, regardless if the player turns 8 after July 31st
What is included in the SCAA recreational soccer program?
Every player in our program has 1 night of professional Creative Player skills training. The players also have another night of team practice. The games are usually on weekends- U6, U8 co-ed all on Saturdays at Steele Creek. Other ages play half their games at Steele Creek and half at nearby fields. The soccer fees include the training, full uniforms (jerseys, shorts, socks), ref fees, etc
When are practices and training?
Practices and training are on weeknights after 5:00. The nights/times of practices are set by the volunteer coaches, once the teams are formed. The Creative Player skills training schedule is set up by the trainers, once registrations is completed. Requests for certain practice/training nights can be made but all teams except U-6 are drafted and we have to honor the draft process for team formation and the individual team's coaches set the practice nights/times. The U-6 and U-8 ages have multiple Creative Player skills training sessions, so there is some flexibility in the night/time for the training in these age groups.
What does the player need to play soccer?
Each player needs cleats, shin guards and a ball. The player should bring the ball to every practice. Ball sizes- U-6 size 3, U8, U10, U12 size 4 , U14 and up size 5. Dick’s Sporting Goods has package deals with all 3 items included and can be purchased on the SCAA Dicks’ night on Aug 8th 3:00-7:00 for discounts

Can I volunteer to coach? I didn’t play soccer
We are always looking for new coaches. Soccer is an easy sport to coach because soccer is a player driven sport, unlike some of the other sports. We have a coaches training session by Ralph Wager-founder of the Creative Player skills training- to familiarize the coaches with the soccer skills. 1 night a week of training is run by the Creative Players skills trainer and the coaches simply assist and learn form the sessions. The other night of team practice can simply mirror the Creative Player skills training session of that week or we also have weekly practice planned sessions for each age group on the website that can used for the practice- the practices plans are detailed and cover a weekly practice for the season. SCAA provides each coach all the equipment needed- bag, ball, cones, pinnies, etc. And as the coach, you can pick the team’s practice night and time. Once you start coaching soccer, you’ll love it and understand why it’s called the beautiful game!
